Matthew Rock was born and raised in YEOVIL, SOMERSET. He has led a jam packed and impressive career in music and the arts and is now well known all over the South West in a variety of professional capacities. He is now a professional entertainer, singer and all-round musician with a schedule that clearly depicts his talent.
Matthew's performing career began at the tender age of 8 on the OctagonTheatre stage. By the age of 14 he was already out there "gigging" and by 16 he was musically directing shows at the Octagon Theatre, whilst still studying at YEOVIL COLLEGE.
Matthew graduated from EXETER UNIVERSITY in 1997. Before, during and since this time he has worked as a teacher in all sorts of schools including the highly acclaimed Millfield School. Matthew has also worked as a vocal coach to many, now WEST END stars and has contributed to the careers of many others who now work as successful musicians.
Matthew has worked with numerous companies as a musical director, including Yeovil Amateur Pantomime Society, Yeovil Operatic Society, Yeovil Youth Theatre and the Yeovil Show Company - having conducted full orchestras through the likes of WEST SIDE STORY, THE KING AND I and his personal favourite, the staggering SWEENEY TODD.
In 2001 Matthew founded and set up two highly successful theatre companies in Yeovil - THE YEOVIL SHOW COMPANY and STAGEMAKERS school of performance, both of which boast ten very successful years and some big productions at the Octagon. These include The Sound of Music, Oliver!, Oklahoma, Annie - among others - all of which Matthew produced and musically directed and in some cases also directed. Matthew has also recently been appointed as Musical Director of the Yeovilton Military Wives Choir.
As a performer Matthew has led a staggering career. Forever "gigging" he has entertained audiences all over the UK and abroad. He is widely recognised as one of the top keyboard vocalists in the UK, frequently commended for particularly impressive vocal talent. Besides his regular "all-round" performances, Matthew's vocal ability has also led him through spells with professional choirs, church choirs, and not to mention impressive musical theatre performances. Matthew can also be recognised as the voice behind the stage show ALMOST ELTON a show, which as well as performing all over the country, has also appeared at the likes of Christmas lightswitch on's, Midwest Radio party night and open air concerts in Yeovil's own Quedam Centre. Matthew's performing has also been at the heart of a major charity fundraiser THE GIGATHON, where he has raised £7,000 of the £10,000 he hopes to for the Bristol Children's Hospital.
A published composer, Matthew has written huge amounts of music having received commissionsfrom all over the world, as far as Australia, India, Thailand, France and many others as well as within the UK.
Matthew has been and continues to be undeniably one of the busiest and most sought after musicians in the South West. His impressive portfolio makes it easy to see why.
